This place was alright, upon pulling into the lot I got a feeling that's all I'm going to say...once inside the place looked better....the booths and windows definitely need a good cleaning, their drinks are large (which I appreciated) the tortilla chips were warm and fresh...they bring you salsa but you'll have to ask for white sauce (in their case, the Mexican cheese sauce you can buy across the street at the super market warmed in a microwave) the food was ok...definitely generic Mexican/American food....most of the ingredients tasted like they were bought from a grocery store and not made from scratch on the premises...overall it was ok....ill check out the other Mexican restaurants in the area before I consider returning though....

This place is awesome. From the minute you walk in, you are drawn in by the Mexican theme decor. The chips and salsa were delivered to our table before we even had a chance to sit down! Prices are reasonable. The bean cheese dip was excellent. I ordered the mixed fajita quesadilla and though they messed up the order, they fixed it nicely. Overall for a party of 7, mistakes are bound to happen. The beans and rice taste better than any other Mexican restaurant I have tried...this is saying a lot since I have gone to countless Mexican restaurants! We asked for a hotter salsa than the one that came out with the chips and boy they delivered. It was spicy with a nice flavor. Everyone in our table was pleased with their orders, even the kids. Drinks were refilled promptly. Oh yeah, take a pic with The Dos Equis Most Interesting Man in the World poster on your way out.... Lol!

I'm a picky mexican food type of guy and this place is great! Everything I've orders has been awesome. I usually go once a week since it's so close. The quesadilla with chicken or steak is really good! 2 of those will deff fill you up along with the chips. I also recommend their cheese dip for the chips.

We went here after trying a few other places in the area, and it wasn't what we expected. We just moved here from Texas and finding good Mexican has been a challenge. Very quick service- we were in and out in less than 15 minutes at lunch time. The food was about par for Mexican food outside of Mexico/Texas.. But it definitely wasn't disappointing. Large drinks, fresh chips, good salsa- plenty of seating, plus My husband and I ate for under 15 bucks. What else can you ask for? I think we found a new go to place.

You know a place is bad when as soon as you order you guess how much of it will come out wrong...and then it's worse than you gave it credit for.

We came here on a whim during a road trip to Florida, trying to avoid fast food. And it was much better than any fast food joint. I ordered the lunch portion of carnitas and my plate was filled to the brim with deliciousness, consisting of meat, pico de gallo (with jalapeno), rice, beans and a side of flour tortillas. Some of the end pieces of meat were a little tough but other than that the whole thing was good, especially for the price. I would be back if I was ever in the area.

I was on a road trip to florida, and we spur of the moment stopped here. It was authentic and nice and cheap, just like good Mexican food should be. They handled our party of 12 very well, and kept up with 12 guys eating chips and salsa. If you want good homestyle Mexican, great choice.

I've been here a few times hoping the food would be better each time, but everything I ordered is disgusting. I'm no picky eater either..

I love this place! They just moved to their new building (where Bonanza used to be for you locals) and it's so cozy! Very cute decor, and much, MUCH cleaner than the old place. Their food is amazing. The cheese dip is always my favorite. But everything I've tried there is so good. The staff is really nice too. It's definitely a fun hang out.

This was a last-minute dinner choice, and I have to say I'm pleased with it. We were seated immediately, surprisingly enough for a Friday night. And the restaurant was actually fairly busy. Waiter service was a bit slow, but no big deal. Our group, being not overly starving, stuck to smaller side dishes off the menu. I myself got the rice, beans, and snagged some tortillas off of my mother and brother's girlfriend. Food was good, tortillas a bit bland, and the beans were seemingly made with bacon grease- something I am not used to (or at least, I've never noticed it before). It gave them a distinct flavor, they were good. Prices are fair, but again we got the smaller plates. It had a good atmosphere for five weary travelers just looking for a quick bite- lively, but not too loud. I'll be back next time I visit the area.

Terrible chips...which always immediately turns me off to a mexican restaurant. The fajitas i got were actually pretty good, much better then I thought they would be. We will go back but only for the fajitas, my boyfriends meal wasnt great either.

I took my wife here for dinner, and the service was fast. Too fast. I felt rushed the entire time, which really impacted the experience. I had a bus boy waiting to clean the table and the waiter kept asking what the problem was after he had given us the check. We hadn't finished eating yet. There were still full plates in front of us and we had been there exactly 18 minutes by that point. There were plenty of tables free and no one was waiting so I thought that was very unprofessional. The food was very mediocre, not good at all, and I expected so much more. The menu had so much to offer but it was poorly presented and hurried. My wife had chili releno's. We expected stuffed peppers, something that takes time to make at home. We had this brought out in under five minutes. It was a sliver of pepper covered in glop. So dissapointed in that. It was inedible as well. I had a combination plate with enchiladas, beans, and rice. There was nothing special about it and the flavor just wasn't there. With so many restaurants out there we expect it to be great or we don't go back. This place is a pass for me, which is a shame because we wanted to like it.

I can't wait until they move to the new location! The current place is old and pretty cruddy- but I have high hopes for the new place. The food is always so yummy and they have great prices too! Wednesday nights are margarita nights and it gets pretty crowded!

I recently moved to the area. Having come from Miami this place did impress to say the least. I hesitate to ever give a five but I believe after a few more trips to this spot it will be well deserving. Quantities are great. Easy to split a platter.

Average Mexican food, but great beer prices! The service is pretty good, free chips is always a plus in my book, and the ambiance is not bad. I'd say go if you're in the mood for Mexican food that is a nice enough restaurant.

Good service, friendly waitresses, the food at this location is a major improvement to the one in north Columbus, bigger portions, decent salsa, the meat is good and has flavor. I would wager this one has different ownership maybe? It is night and day compared to the other location. When we're in the mood for quick and tasty Americanized Mexican food, this is a primo spot to eat at.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place - Ole! My husband and I have been here a little over a year. I am Mexican & he is a 'white boy' (lol). We have searched many restaurants for authentic and we both absolutely love El Vaquero! The service is great, the chips and salsa are muy sabroso - we go every Friday night!

Personally, this is our favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. The wife and I have eaten at a few of the other El Vaquero's in town, but this is hands down the best one. I had the Pork Carnitas and I have to say, they are amazing! If you want good Mexican food, don't miss out on this place.

It wasn't crowded for a Friday night. Julio was our server and probably one of the best servers I've ever had, any restaurant anywhere. He made a lot of suggestions that we opted for, and he wasn't wrong. The chili relleno was flavorful but not overwhelming. Enchiladas were outstanding, cheese poblano was spectacular. The overall best was the fajitas. The Vaquero Fajitas have chicken, steak, and shrimp, all wonderful. Even the rice & beans taste better here than other places. Decent mexican food in Columbus/Phenix City is difficult to find, but El Vaquero's is spot-on.

We LOVE Julio!! He's an excellent waiter and makes sure you are 100% satisfied! We love to order Carnitas, Parradillas for 2, Alambre, the carne asada and churizzo are amazing!! Try some pico de gallo with your cheese dip also. We are always looking for great authentic Mexican food and this is the best by far. Both my husband and I have traveled to Texas, Mexico and Puerto Rico and know our food.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
